Artist Director Darryl Bayer is on a mission…
After s
tudying trumpet and conducting his entire adult life, a soloist with the Boston Symphony and Pops with 15 years experience principal trumpet with the WSO, Darryl was not going to let The Woodlands be without their own orchestra. In 2013, a small group of concerned leaders began the formation of the new WSO in a grass-roots effort centered on celebrating the musicians, focus on youth and designing concerts a little “outside of the box”. Darryl serves the WSO in multiple capacities including Pops Conductor, day-to-day operations AND performs principal trumpet too.
For over 25 years, Darryl Bayer has been a resident of The Woodlands involved in multiple organizations and educational institutions. He is currently Orchestra Instructor at Lone Star College Montgomery, The Woodlands Methodist School Band Director and private tutor staff for Conroe ISD. Mr. Bayer is active in multiple church music ministries including playing for The Woodlands First Baptist orchestra and has recorded a solo Christian music CD called Soaking Reign. After serving for a time as interim conductor of the Baytown Symphony Orchestra, Darryl Bayer has returned to his principal trumpet chair and teaches trumpet at Lee College in Baytown. His chamber group, The Texas Brass Ensemble presents concerts and clinics around the state on a regular basis with three acclaimed CDs.
